Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has alleged that and several leaders of the (ADC) were attacked on Tuesday in Benin, the Edo State capital.
In a post on X, Tanko said the incident occurred at the residence of former Edo governor, John Odigie-Oyegun shortly after Obi and other party leaders returned from the ADC secretariat, where Olumide Akpata was formally received into the party.
Tanko claimed that armed men trailed the delegation from the secretariat to Odigie-Oyegun’s residence, where they allegedly opened fire at the gate and vandalised several vehicles. He described the incident as an assassination attempt.
Reacting to the development, Obi condemned the attack as “totally unacceptable,” saying it would be reported to the appropriate authorities. He expressed concern over the state of security, noting that the residence of a former governor was targeted.
Obi alleged that one individual was shot twice in the head at the secretariat, while another was shot in the neck and taken to hospital for treatment. He said the assailants fled the scene after security operatives reportedly intervened.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
