The Federal Government has declared Monday, May 29, a public holiday ahead of the inauguration of the incoming President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The government had cancelled May 29 as public holiday following the designation of June 12 as democracy day.
But it had to declare Monday a public holiday to celebrate the transition from an outgoing government to a new one to be headed by Tinubu.
A statement released on Friday by Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior said that the announcement was made in Abuja on Friday .
Belgore confirmed that the minister urged Nigerians to maintain the rule of law and all democratic institutions in order to promote democracy.
Speaking to fellow Nigerians, Aregbesola urged them to refrain from all forms of violence and bad deeds.
He said, “Democracy anywhere is an unfinished business and the only way it can keep developing and serve its end of being the vehicle to good governance and the welfare of all the people is by adhering to its tenets of rule of law, support for democratic institutions, promotion of free and responsible press and advancement of the frontiers of freedom for all the people.”
