The Grammy-winning singer reacts angrily to Seun Kuti amid an escalating online clash between their fanbases over comparisons with Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Wizkid has broken his silence on the escalating online dispute between his fans and Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat musician and son of the late legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The controversy began last week after Seun Kuti, 43, publicly accused Wizkid’s fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, of disrespecting his father’s legacy by drawing comparisons between Fela and the Grammy-winning artiste.
However, in a series of posts shared on his Instagram Stories on Tuesday evening, Wizkid, 35, expressed anger over Seun’s comments and conduct online.
The ‘Made in Lagos’ singer first reposted a video of a woman delivering a heated critique of Seun in Yoruba. In the video, the woman questioned why Seun’s family had not intervened, accusing him of days of what she described as erratic online behaviour, including verbally attacking others and their families.
She also argued that Wizkid’s global success has helped keep younger audiences interested in Fela’s legacy.
“Seun Kuti’s family, is this how you will keep watching him as he spends days online acting this way?” she asked, adding that without contemporary stars like Wizkid, many young people might not still engage with Fela’s music and influence.
Following the repost, Wizkid directly responded to Seun with a series of strongly worded messages, mocking his age calling him “fool at 40” and career while asserting his own global status and success. The posts included insults and provocative claims like “pu@sy boy” positioning himself above Fela in terms of relevance, saying “I big pass you papa”.
The exchange has further fuelled reactions across social media, with fans of both artistes divided, as the long-running debate over legacy, relevance and respect in Nigerian music continues to trend online.
