In a bold move, 9mobile rebrands as T2

9mobile, Nigeria’s telecommunications company, has officially rebranded to T2 in a ceremony held on Friday at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

During the event, Femi Banigbe, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), heralded the rebrand as “the beginning of a bold new chapter” for the company. He emphasized that this transformation signifies not merely a change in branding but a commitment to evolving into a greater and more ambitious entity.

“This is not just a brand unveiling; it is a declaration that we are no longer who we were, but we are becoming something greater,” Banigbe stated. He highlighted that this transformation extends beyond a new logo or tagline, manifesting a renewed mission and promise to customers.

Banigbe noted the increasing demand for speed, access, and relevance in technology, especially as Nigeria’s youth and entrepreneurs drive a dynamic startup ecosystem. “We see it in the rising tide of the youth, the boldness of our startup ecosystem, and the desires of families to stay connected, informed, and entertained anytime and anywhere,” he remarked.

To remain relevant, the CEO stressed the necessity for the company to evolve radically and pragmatically, reimagining its business approach. He proudly declared that the brand is “Nigerian” at its core, reflecting the resilience and tenacity that characterize the nation’s spirit.

“In the face of overwhelming odds, we have shown a spirit of resilience that continues to inspire the world,” he said. Despite having faced challenges, Banigbe assured stakeholders that T2, like Nigeria itself, will emerge stronger and more determined to tackle market challenges.
