President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s determination to eradicate terrorism and defend its sovereignty, following renewed pressure from the United States after President Donald Trump’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
Speaking in a strong message of reassurance, Tinubu said Nigeria would not be deterred by external judgments driven by distorted narratives of the nation’s security landscape. He said the country remains fully committed to protecting its citizens and preserving national unity.
“We face challenges head-on and remain steadfast in our commitment to engage partners and champion Nigeria’s interests on the diplomatic front,” Tinubu said, insisting that Nigeria’s voice must be respected on the international stage.
Acknowledging the two-decade struggle against violent extremism, Tinubu vowed that the nation’s security forces will decisively triumph over terror groups, with the government refusing to compromise on its obligation to keep Nigerians safe.
“We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle. Security is non-negotiable,” the President declared. “With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail.”
Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria remains united despite attempts to portray the country as fractured along religious and ethnic divisions. He maintained that progress in ongoing security and economic reforms shows Nigeria is on a stronger path than ever.
“The task ahead is immense, yet our resolve is even greater,” he said, calling on allies to stand with Nigeria as it intensifies counterterrorism operations. “We have made significant progress in the past two years and we will decisively eliminate this threat.”
He praised the armed forces and intelligence community for their sacrifice, stressing that their dedication is the backbone of the country’s stability.
“To the brave men and women of our armed forces, regardless of tribe or religion, who serve fearlessly… we express our deepest gratitude,” Tinubu said.
Reassuring global partners of Nigeria’s reliability despite ongoing diplomatic tensions, the President stated that Nigeria will continue to be a trusted ally and a force for peace.
“Courage and the rule of law will guide us to victory,” Tinubu affirmed. “Nigeria will remain a dependable partner and a steady voice for stability around the world.”
