INEC: Senator Natasha Akpoti’s recall process now in progress

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the representatives of the petitioners seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, have provided the necessary contact information.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, INEC announced that the petitioners have submitted their contact address, telephone numbers, and email addresses, which were previously incomplete.

As required by Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, INEC has notified Senator Akpoti about the receipt of the petition and delivered the letter to her official address.

The same letter has been copied to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on the Commission’s website.

The next step in the recall process is to scrutinize the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to verify that the petition has been signed by more than half of the registered voters in the constituency. This process will be done in the coming days, and the outcome will be made public.

INEC reassures Nigerians that the recall process will be open and transparent, guided by the legal framework and regulations.
