Islamic leaders rally support, pray for Tinubu at 74

Islamic leaders, traditional rulers, and scholars on Sunday held special prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he marked his 74th birthday, with a central gathering at the National Mosque Abuja.

The prayer session was led by the Sultan of Sokoto, represented by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, alongside other prominent clerics and traditional leaders. The President arrived shortly after 3:00 p.m., participated in the special prayers, and later observed the Asr prayer with worshippers.

The gathering, attended by governors, ministers, politicians, and faithful from across the country, focused on seeking divine guidance, wisdom, good health, and strength for the President as he leads the nation.

Speaking at the event, the Etsu Nupe described the occasion as a solemn spiritual exercise rather than a celebration, stressing the importance of sustained prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and development. He also called for greater government support for the upkeep of the National Mosque.

Similarly, the Emir of Keffi, Chindo Yamusa, commended the President’s efforts to address economic challenges and support subnational governments, noting positive impacts in areas such as salary payments and infrastructure, particularly in Nasarawa State.

Islamic scholars from various sects across Nigeria participated in the session, which featured the recitation of the Holy Qur’an 111 times by more than 300 clerics, alongside special supplications for national progress and stability.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin conveyed the President’s appreciation to religious leaders and attendees, reiterating his commitment to national unity and development.

The event concluded with prayers led by Professor Imam Ibrahim Maqari for lasting peace, prosperity, and stability in the country.

A similar prayer session organised by the Arewa Think Tank was also held in Kaduna in honour of the President, with several political figures and traditional rulers in attendance.
