JAMB grants final extension: 2025 public University admissions now close November 17

In a decisive move to ensure a fair and inclusive admissions process, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a final extension for the completion of 2025 admissions into the nation’s public universities. The deadline has been pushed from October 31 to Monday, November 17, 2025.

The Board’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, clarified in a recent Abuja statement that this adjustment was necessitated by two critical developments that disrupted the initial timeline.

Firstly, a legal impasse was resolved only on October 28, 2025, when a court order that had previously frozen the 2025/2026 admission list was lifted. Secondly, the National Universities Commission (NUC) accredited 229 new academic programmes for 37 universities on October 29, requiring additional time for these institutions to integrate the new courses into their admission cycles.

While commending public universities for their efforts to meet the original deadline, Benjamin emphasized that November 17 is now the final date for all public universities to conclude their admissions. He reiterated that this extension is crucial to maintaining the broader admissions calendar, which allows polytechnics and colleges of education a clear window to finalize their own processes by the overarching national deadline of December 31, 2025.

The Board has assured all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to a smooth, transparent, and credible admission exercise that balances institutional autonomy with national educational goals.
