Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged man, who attacked some of its officials with weapons and charms.
Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the agency who disclosed this in a Friday statement said the officials were attacked on Thursday, along Musical Village, Awolowo Road in the Ikorodu area of the state, while on routine monitoring exercise.
Speaking in the Ikeja office of the agency, Oki, decried the increasing attack on officials of the agency on official duties, adding that the arrested assailant has been handed over to security operatives for prosecution.
He further noted that no amount of intimidation or harassment will make the agency go back on its mandate in ensuring safe and secure buildings across the state.
He said: “These assailants not only obstruct our staff but also hold them hostage for hours. These acts of hooliganism will not deter us from carrying out our duties.
“Thankfully, we managed to overcome these attacks without any casualties. Our staff’s resilience and quick responses have played a crucial role in overpowering the assailants and preventing more severe consequences.
“Incidents of harassment and attacks tend to jeopardise the agency monitoring activities and can potentially pose significant threats to the public.”
Oki called on the general public to support the agency in its mission to curb the menace of building collapses across the state by collaborating with the agency, in ensuring the safety and integrity of structures that will foster a secure environment for all.
It will be recalled that in order to curb the menace of building collapse in Lagos State, the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in December, directed that artisans are only to embark on building projects with the supervision of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LSBCA).
