The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has announced traffic diversion and lane management plans ahead of the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Lekki–Epe Expressway, scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
According to the ministry, sections of the Lagos-bound carriageway will be closed to facilitate construction, while vehicular movement will be maintained through a dynamic lane-sharing system on the Epe-bound carriageway during peak periods.
Under the arrangement, traffic management will be divided into morning and evening peak periods. From 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., motorists heading towards Lagos will have access to two lanes, while Epe-bound traffic will be restricted to one lane. From 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., the configuration will be reversed, with two lanes available for Epe-bound traffic and one lane for Lagos-bound vehicles.
The ministry explained that the Lagos-bound carriageway has been divided into eight intersection phases, with rehabilitation works to be carried out sequentially, intersection by intersection.
The phases include: Maruwa Bus Stop to Admiralty (1.79km) scheduled for seven days; Freedom Way to Maruwa Bus Stop (1.50km) for six days; Chisco to Freedom Way (0.97km) for five days; Jakande to Chisco (1.88km) for nine days; Igbo-Efon to Jakande (1.57km) for eight days; Chevron to Igbo-Efon (1.06km) for six days; Second Toll Gate to Chevron (0.97km) for five days; and Ajah Bridge to the Second Toll Gate (4.37km) for 18 days.
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation urged motorists to plan their journeys accordingly, obey traffic officials on ground, and exercise patience throughout the duration of the rehabilitation works.
