The Lagos State Government has announced a partnership with MTN Nigeria to redevelop the Obalende under-bridge into a modern transport facility to be known as the Y’ELLO Bus Park.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the project will transform the previously degraded area into a structured, secure and community-focused transport hub. The redevelopment is aimed at improving mobility, sanitation, safety and environmental sustainability in the Obalende axis.

According to Wahab, the new bus park will feature an organised and regulated transport terminal, a recycling drop-off station, a road camp for LAWMA sweepers and security agencies, over 60 public toilet fixtures, kiosks and other essential amenities for commuters and residents.
He noted that safety and environmental health are central to the project’s design, with plans for solar-powered lighting to enhance night-time visibility, eliminate blind spots and improve the effectiveness of CCTV surveillance. These measures, he said, are expected to significantly reduce criminal activities in the area.
The project will also include a biodigester system for sustainable wastewater management, alongside a dedicated recycling station to discourage illegal waste disposal. In line with the state’s climate goals, solar panels will be installed to boost energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, while tree planting will improve air quality and beautify the environment.
Wahab described the initiative as part of the government’s broader effort to reclaim and repurpose public spaces in a functional, safe and sustainable manner, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to building a cleaner, safer and more resilient Lagos.
