Lagos State Police Command Announces Breakthrough in Fight Against Violent Crime
The Lagos State Police Command is proud to announce a major breakthrough in its ongoing battle against violent crime and criminal activities in Lagos State. On June 20, 2025, Tactical Squad operatives successfully executed a high-stakes operation, code-named “Silence, Speed, and Surprise,” resulting in the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso. Akinwande, a 44-year-old infamous hired killer and head of a notorious gang, has been a significant source of terror in the Mushin area and its surroundings.

For over a decade, from 2009 to 2024, Akinwande and his criminal associates have carried out a spree of armed robberies, cold-blooded murders, kidnappings, and cult-related violence, leaving a trail of horror and trauma in their wake. His gang’s activities created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among residents, making him one of the most wanted criminals in the history of Lagos State.
Akinwande was apprehended in his hideout in the Agbado area of Ogun State after several attempts by the Police Tactical Squad. The culmination of vigilant police work and intelligence gathering led to this successful operation, which is seen as a significant victory in the fight against violent crime in Lagos.
During the raid on Akinwande’s residence in Mushin, police recovered an impressive cache of weapons and incriminating materials. The recovered items include:
– Two (2) AK-47 rifles
– One (1) K2 assault rifle
– One (1) Red Ryder rifle
– Three (3) pump-action rifles
– Two (2) locally-made single-barrel pistols
– Five (5) magazines
– Fifty-seven (57) live cartridges
– Seventy (70) 5.56 live ammunition
– Twenty-seven (27) 9mm ammunition
– One (1) expended 5.56 ammunition
– One (1) dagger
– Three (3) walkie-talkies
– Nine (9) international passports belonging to various individuals
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), has been tasked by the Commissioner of Police to oversee a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend other associates linked to Akinwande. Four families have already come forward to identify him as the perpetrator behind the killings of their loved ones.
CP Olohundare Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, has assured the public that the police remain committed to safeguarding the safety and security of all residents. He commended the officers involved for their bravery and dedication, urging the community to continue supporting police efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious activities.
Wasiu Akinwande is currently in police custody under stringent security measures and will face the full force of the law for his numerous crimes.
