A N13 million worth of narcotics believed to be Indian hemp have been seized from two men, by the Lagos State Police Command at Isolo road, Mushin, Lagos State.
In a statement by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos police command reported that the drugs were delivered last Wednesday by one 49-year-old Fidelis Otiga, as well as Chukwuma Kennedy, in a Toyota Sienna with licence plate Lagos KJA 118 HV.
According to the police spokesperson, the perpetrators were apprehended while transporting the contraband around midnight when they were pulled over by the Aswani Police Division officers conducting a usual stop-and-search.
Hundeyin noted that on July 12 at 11:56 p.m., there was a stop and search that resulted in the capture. He said Chukwuma Kennedy and Fidelis Otiga, both 49 and 50 years old respectively, were detained after it was discovered that they had narcotics in their vehicle.
The public relations officer also noted that since then, the suspects and the evidence were taken to the command’s headquarters in Ikeja for additional investigation and legal action.
Idowu Owohunwa, the state’s commissioner of police, reaffirmed his commitment to fighting drug abuse and misuse in the state while safeguarding the safety of inhabitants.
