Legal representatives of Pastor Dr. Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, have accused social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and a woman identified as “Miss Chi” of cyber incitement, harassment, stalking, criminal defamation and impersonation against their client.
Addressing journalists in a press briefing, the lawyers said they were acting on the instruction of Pastor Okafor and in collaboration with concerned civil society groups to set the record straight on what they described as false and malicious allegations circulating online.
According to the legal team, the controversy followed renewed social media claims by a woman presenting herself as Chi Okafor, who alleged that she is the biological daughter of Pastor Okafor and accused him of abandonment and neglect. The lawyers dismissed the claims as entirely false, misleading and defamatory.
They alleged that VeryDarkMan amplified the claims across his social media platforms without verifying the facts or seeking Pastor Okafor’s response, thereby subjecting their client to public ridicule and cyber bullying under the guise of activism.
Providing background to the dispute, the lawyers narrated that in the early years of Pastor Okafor’s ministry, a woman had claimed she was pregnant for him. They said he accepted responsibility and married her, but issues later arose in the marriage. According to them, following a period of separation and disagreements—particularly after Pastor Okafor was kidnapped and allegedly abandoned during the ordeal—he demanded a DNA test after the woman questioned the paternity of the children.
The legal team claimed the DNA test results showed that the children were not biologically related to Pastor Okafor, leading to the dissolution of the marriage. They added that despite this outcome, Pastor Okafor continued to support the children’s education and welfare out of compassion, including supporting them abroad, stressing that such assistance should not be misconstrued as an admission of paternity.
The lawyers maintained that allegations of abandonment are false and constitute cyber bullying and libel. They warned that continued portrayal of the individuals as Pastor Okafor’s biological children amounts to misrepresentation and reputational harm.
As part of their demands, the legal team called for the immediate retraction of all alleged defamatory publications, a public apology in two national newspapers, removal of all related online content, and a cessation of claims implying any familial relationship with their client. They also challenged the accusers to submit to a fresh DNA test if contrary evidence exists.
They cautioned that failure to comply would compel Pastor Okafor to seek legal redress to protect his reputation, adding that the briefing was aimed at clarifying facts and preventing the spread of what they described as falsehoods.
