Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of pledging to work against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Makinde made the claim during a media briefing in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The governor, serving his second and final term and a prominent PDP figure, noted that although he supported Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, he has no intention of doing so in 2027.

He recalled that Wike — his former ally who also supported Tinubu in 2023 — openly made the statement during a meeting attended by the president and other political figures.

“I was in a meeting with President Tinubu and Wike. Wike said to the president, ‘Sir, I will hold the PDP for you in 2027’. I was shocked,” Makinde said. “Wike can support the president in 2027, but I will not.”

The governor emphasised that his current focus is on the survival and rebuilding of the PDP, which he said has been weakened by mass defections of members, including governors and lawmakers.
