Malami, son granted ₦500m bail as Judge frowns at senior lawyers attempts to compromise him

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has cautioned senior lawyers against any attempt to influence or compromise him in the ongoing alleged corruption case involving former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

Delivering a brief ruling on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Justice Nwite expressed displeasure over reported efforts by some senior members of the bar to interfere with the judicial process in the case pending before his court.

The judge, however, granted bail to Malami and his son in the sum of ₦500 million each, with two sureties in like sum. As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered both defendants to deposit their international passports with the registrar of the court.

Justice Nwite adjourned further hearing in the matter to February 17, 2026. Pending the perfection of their bail conditions, Malami and his son are to remain at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
