The make-shift stage constructed for swearing-in ceremony of the new Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has collapsed leaving many trapped.

Governor Yusuf, his deputy, and the state’s acting chief judge were all on the podium when it caved in. Fresh reports say they are safe.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, but a video showed the venue of the event filled beyond its capacity.

Abba was declared the winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state in March, after beating his closest rival, Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He is an ally of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
