The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a long-wanted drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, popularly known as “Kanmo-Kanmo,” bringing to an end a 12-year manhunt linked to the killing of three NDLEA officers.
NDLEA operatives tracked Jimoh to his hideout in Owode, Ogun State, on Friday, January 16, 2026, following credible intelligence. He was arrested during a tactical operation in which officers recovered 69 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, from his possession.
Jimoh has been on the agency’s wanted list since June 15, 2014, when he allegedly orchestrated a mob attack on NDLEA officers who attempted to arrest him at his enclave. Three officers, including Rabiu Usman Kazaure, were killed during the incident. Although he escaped at the time, the agency said it remained committed to tracking him down.
In a related development, the NDLEA disclosed that Jimoh had also evaded arrest in August 2023 when operatives raided his residence in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, recovering 1,922 kilograms of skunk stored in 139 sacks. The property used as a drug warehouse was later forfeited to the Federal Government following court proceedings.
Meanwhile, the agency recorded multiple arrests and seizures across the country in coordinated operations. In Edo State, operatives arrested a drug lord, Isihor Edika, 53, and seized 320 kilograms of skunk in a forest raid. In Abuja, a 44-year-old woman, Yinka Agboola, was arrested for allegedly selling illicit drugs online, with skunk and cannabis oil recovered from her residence.
Other raids in Lagos, Enugu, Delta, Oyo, Kwara, Jigawa and the Apapa port led to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of large quantities of cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup, cocaine and other illicit substances.
Commending the officers involved, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), described the arrest of Kanmo-Kanmo as “a triumph of justice,” saying it sends a strong message that fugitives will eventually be brought to account.
Marwa added that the arrest closes a painful chapter for the families of the officers killed in 2014, reaffirming the agency’s resolve to honour their sacrifice and sustain the fight against drug trafficking nationwide.
