The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, has distanced himself from a statement circulating in the media and on social platforms purportedly issued by him in response to recent allegations linked to the ongoing controversy involving Dangote.
In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, Ahmed described the attributed response as false, stressing that it did not emanate from him. He said his attention had been drawn to the purported statement amid heightened public debate surrounding allegations made against his person and family.
“While I am aware of the wild and spurious allegations made against me and my family and the frenzy it has generated, as a regulator of a sensitive industry, I have opted not to engage in public brickbat,” the NMDPRA chief stated.
Ahmed noted that the matter has since been taken to a formal investigative institution by the accuser, expressing confidence that the process would allow for an objective examination of the issues and ultimately clear his name.
The clarification comes as public discourse intensifies following allegations attributed to interests linked to Dangote, placing the leadership of the petroleum downstream regulator under scrutiny. Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to due process and regulatory integrity, emphasizing that he would allow constituted authorities to address the matter.
He signed the disclaimer in his capacity as Authority Chief Executive of the NMDPRA.
