Nigeria’s youngest lawmaker and Minority Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable AbdulRasheed Kashamu, has said the House of Assembly will do its utmost best with respect to the N1.054 trillion Ogun State budget presented by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Governor Abiodun, on Wednesday, presented a budget of N1,054,542,020,147.47 for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

The proposed budget outlines ambitious plans for expanding rail infrastructure across the state. These include extending the Red Line Metro rail from Agbado to Kajola, the Blue Line Metro rail from Okokomaiko to Agbara/Lusada, and establishing the Purple Line Metro rail to link Mowe with Iperu, seamlessly integrating with Lagos State’s rail system.

During his address, the governor provided insights into the state’s revenue expectations.

He disclosed that N120.97 billion is projected from the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, while N193.85 billion is anticipated from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, bringing the total domestic revenue forecast to N314.82 billion.

The governor presented a detailed sectoral allocation of the proposed budget, revealing that N177.835 billion (17%) is earmarked for education, N134.538 billion (13%) for health, N66.382 billion (6%) for housing and community development, and N65.38 billion (6%) for agriculture and industry.

Infrastructure development is set to receive the largest share, with N284.4 billion (27%), while N25.27 billion (2%) is allocated to recreation, culture, and religion.

Governor Abiodun said the “Budget of Hope and Prosperity” aims to drive economic growth, reduce inequality, and enhance the quality of life for the state’s residents.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide, commended the governor for his governance initiatives.

Commenting, Kashamu assured that lawmakers will do the needful before passing the budget.

He said: “The legislature and the executive have always had a good relationship. Now this is the start of a new season, 2025, and we will do the needful now that the governor has presented the budget.

“On our own part, we will go through it and make sure it is beneficial to every citizen of Ogun State. We have been collaborating and that is the essence of what has happened here.

“Like I said, we will take the budget and look at it. We are going to have our budget retreat and we are going to do what we need to do before passing it.”
