The Osun State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027. This decision was announced in a communiqué issued following a meeting held at the government house in Osogbo on Monday. The caucus also ratified support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s bid for a second term in 2026.
According to the communiqué, this supportive stance was the result of comprehensive consultations involving traditional rulers, civil servants, retirees, religious leaders, market unions, party members, and residents throughout the state.
In response to speculations surrounding Governor Adeleke’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP leaders clarified that such discussions “did not originate from the governor” and lack backing from the majority of APC members.
The communiqué stated, “The majority of the members of the APC in Osun State are opposed to the idea of the defection of Governor Adeleke to the APC, which did not originate from the governor in the first instance.” It also highlighted the hostility that some APC leaders have shown toward Governor Adeleke, who has faced derogatory remarks on social media and national television.
The PDP expressed that most of its members are unhappy with the notion of Adeleke defecting to the APC but would follow him out of loyalty and support for his leadership. The leaders asserted that both the PDP and Governor Adeleke maintain significant popularity in Osun, surpassing that of any other political party.
The communiqué further directed all PDP structures in Osun to disseminate these resolutions and encouraged Governor Adeleke to continue focusing on governance and the implementation of his administration’s Five Point Agenda.
The communiqué was co-signed by Governor Adeleke and key PDP leaders, including Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Kola Adewusi, Lere Oyewumi, Bamidele Salam, Moruf Adebayo, Lukman Mudashiru, Soji Adetunji, and many others, reflecting a unified front within the party.
