The family of Ms. Comfort Uwakwe has appealed to the public for help following her mysterious disappearance during a visit to her boyfriend in Epe, Lagos State, amid allegations of foul play and concerns over the handling of the investigation by the police.
Ms. Uwakwe, a native of Owalla Autonomous Community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, was reported missing after she travelled from her residence in Oshodi, Lagos, to visit a male friend, identified as Olajide Akeushola, in Epe on October 25, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Owalla Town Development Union (OTDU), Lagos branch, Ms. Uwakwe informed a female friend that she had arrived safely in Epe and had met the person she went to see. However, later that night, at about 10:08 p.m., she reportedly made a distress call, claiming she had been locked in a room and was in danger. Her phone subsequently went off, and she has not been heard from since.
The family reported her missing at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, on October 27, 2025. They were initially referred to Epe Police Station before investigations eventually commenced at Makinde Police Station the following day.
On November 26, 2025, the boyfriend, Akeushola, was arrested in Epe and later transferred to the Lagos State Police Command’s Special Squad in Ikeja as a suspect. Police sources said he admitted meeting Ms. Uwakwe on the day she went missing and claimed they had drinks together before she became tipsy and was locked in a hotel room. He further alleged that she later had an accident on the Epe highway, where she was reportedly hit by a trailer.
The police later took the suspect to the alleged accident scene, where a severed leg, believed to be the remains of the missing woman, was recovered about one month after the alleged incident. However, the family rejected the claim, insisting the leg did not belong to Ms. Uwakwe. They subsequently requested an autopsy and DNA analysis, offering to bear the cost.
The development has raised several questions, including the identity of the recovered body part, the absence of other remains, inconsistencies in the suspect’s account, and the lack of clarity surrounding the hotel where the victim was allegedly locked in. The family also questioned why investigators appear to have focused on an accident narrative, despite what they described as troubling inconsistencies.
In a statement signed by the President of the Owalla Town Development Union, Lagos branch, Chiedozie Nzeh, the group called for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served.
