Over 400,000 apply as PSC extends Police recruitment nationwide

The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has extended the deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks, following an overwhelming response from applicants nationwide.

According to the Commission, more than 400,000 applications have been received since the recruitment portal opened on December 15, 2025. The application window, initially scheduled to close earlier, will now remain open until February 8, 2026.

The PSC explained that the extension was granted after a review of the application data revealed significant disparities in participation across states. While states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra showed comparatively low turnout.

The Commission said the decision was aimed at promoting equitable representation from all parts of the country and ensuring that eligible Nigerians are not excluded from the process due to low awareness or limited mobilization.

Prospective applicants, particularly those from states with low submission rates, were urged to apply through the official recruitment portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng before the new deadline.

The PSC further called on state governments, local government councils, sociocultural organisations, religious bodies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to sensitize and mobilize qualified candidates within their areas.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, to a fair, transparent, and credible recruitment process.
