Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has pushed back against the controversy surrounding the newly introduced tax laws, describing reports of inconsistencies as unfounded.
Oyedele said there is currently no official basis for comparing what was passed by the National Assembly with what has been gazetted, noting that the harmonised bills certified by the Clerk of the National Assembly have not been made available.
According to him, only lawmakers can definitively state the contents of the documents transmitted to the President, as the certified harmonised version is the authoritative reference.
He stressed that even members of the tax reform committee do not possess that certified copy, adding that the only document available to him is the version presented to President Bola Tinubu for assent.
Oyedele concluded that the versions of the bills circulating online and reported by sections of the media are not authentic.
