Passengers injured as Abuja-Kaduna train derails after collision

Several passengers were injured on Monday after a train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja derailed following a collision along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.

The incident occurred on March 16, 2026, when the Abuja-bound train collided with another train, forcing a temporary halt to operations on the route.

Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the development, stating that the accident happened at Asham in Kaduna State.

He said the injured passengers were transported back to the Idu train station in Abuja, where they are receiving medical attention.

Opeifa added that no fatalities were recorded and that the corporation has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
