The newly reconstituted Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a postponement of the party’s planned National Convention pending the outcome of an appeal before the Court of Appeal on the recent Federal High Court judgment affecting the party’s leadership and internal processes.
At its inaugural and emergency meeting held on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Abuja, the BoT reviewed the state of affairs within the party and the implications of the court ruling delivered on October 31. In a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and Secretary, Hon. Isah Dansidi, the Board reaffirmed the PDP’s status as a united and indivisible political family rooted in justice, equity, and progress.
The BoT directed all party organs to immediately comply with the Federal High Court ruling, commending the judiciary for what it described as a demonstration of courage and professionalism in upholding the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, and the PDP Constitution.
While supporting the holding of a credible and inclusive National Convention, the BoT insisted that every pre-convention process must strictly adhere to constitutional provisions and the court’s pronouncements. It cautioned that any deviation would amount to contempt and could invalidate outcomes of the planned convention.
The Board maintained that the Federal High Court judgment carries greater legal weight than an interim order issued by the Oyo State High Court. It stressed that in the spirit of respect for judicial processes, the convention should be delayed until the Court of Appeal delivers its decision.
Also at the meeting, the BoT announced new leadership changes, following the decision that former BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, could no longer retain their positions after publicly siding with factions in the ongoing crisis. Their replacements — Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman and Hon. Isah Dansidi as Secretary — were unanimously approved.
The BoT assured members that it would play its constitutional role as the conscience and stabilizing force of the PDP, promoting reconciliation, internal harmony, and stakeholder inclusiveness to prevent escalation of tensions.
Commending loyal party members for standing firm despite recent upheavals, the Board urged continued unity, maturity, and collective resolve to uphold the PDP’s founding principles. It reiterated its commitment to strengthening transparency, institutional respect, and internal democracy as the party works toward a stronger future.
The PDP BoT concluded by calling on all members at home and abroad to close ranks and work together toward a convention that would further consolidate the party’s unity and credibility.
