An alleged drug addict, simply identified as Tony, has been arrested and is currently being detained at the Bayelsa State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for killing his girlfriend identified as Maxuel Ebiralaide.
Tony murdered his girlfriend and mother of his child at the wee hours of Saturday, at their home located at Kabeama community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Neighbours who discovered the deceased’s severed head at dawn prompty arrested the suspect before he could escape and handed him over to the Police.
A resident who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity confirmed the suspect was in custody, while the victim’s remains have been deposited at the Mortuary.
Speaking on the development, the resident said:
“We don’t know what happened between the two lovers that would make him cut off the head of his girlfriend and mother of his child.
“The two of them were quiet and easy-going. We are at a loss as to what went wrong.
“The headless corpse of the lady was evacuated and deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, while the arrested boyfriend is in custody of the police in Yenagoa.”
Meanwhile, another member of the community who gave his name as Ebi Akuna said information reaching them has revealed the suspect is not just a drug addict, but also a run-away soldier.
Akuna said:
“The young man is paternally from Benin City, Edo state and maternally from Kabeama in Sagbama Iga, Bayelsa State.
“He is a run away soldier, a drug addict as we gathered information about him.
“It is very unfortunate and a sad one in the community as the community was preparing to bury the oldest woman in the community.
“The leadership and entire community condemned the act and ensured the culprit was handed over to Amatolo people before the community safety Corps and operation Fuo Akpo came to evacuate the body and culprit.”
When contacted, ASP Musa Muhammed, the Bayelsa Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident, adding that the command would issue a statement on the incident, soon.
