Police arrest Bishop’s driver over alleged murder, theft of SUV in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a domestic staff member allegedly linked to the murder of his employer, a Pentecostal bishop based in Asaba, Delta State, and the attempted sale of the victim’s Toyota Prado SUV in Anambra State.

The suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following investigations into the incident.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who served as the bishop’s driver and domestic aide, allegedly conspired with other fleeing suspects to kill the cleric before escaping with the victim’s vehicle to Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Police operatives reportedly tracked the suspects to Nkpor, where the stolen Toyota Prado Jeep was recovered. Another suspect, alleged to be the intended buyer of the vehicle, was also arrested during the operation.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang involved in the incident and fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, advised residents to exercise caution in the recruitment and supervision of domestic workers, drivers and other household employees.

He urged the public to properly profile and verify the identities of persons employed in their homes and businesses, while remaining vigilant to suspicious behaviour.

The commissioner also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the state.
