Police arrest passenger with gun hidden in dry fish during ‘stop and search’

The Delta State Police Command has revealed that during one of its stop-and-search operation at Kwale, it arrested a passenger of a commercial vehicle with a gun, which he concealed in a bag containing dry fish.

The spokesperson of the Delta state police command, Bright Edafe, while speaking on the importance of stop-and-search of vehicles, revealed this in post on his X handle.

Edafe, who shared photos of the suspect, admitted the operations are usually inconveniencing but emphasised on its importance and appealed to passengers to be patient and cooperate with the police during such operations.

The statement reads:

“Stop and search is very important. Please be patient with us. Kindly read this and understand why!!!

“I got a call from a distress caller that they were on a commercial vehicle coming to Asaba, but the Police stopped them at Kwale and searched all the passengers, he said he didn’t know what they saw with one of them, and that after seeing that thing, the policemen took all of them to the station. I asked that he give the policemen the phone, guess what was found with one of the passengers?

“A cut-to-size gun, and two live cartridges concealed inside a bag containing smoked fish.

“He was detained, and other passengers were allowed to go.

“You can see that stop and search is so important, I quite agree that it may inconvenience passengers, but pls always be patient and cooperate with the Police.”
