Police seal PDP HQs, blocking Turaki-led NWC meeting amid leadership crisis

Security tensions heightened on Wednesday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters in Abuja as police officers sealed off the secretariat with barbed-wire barricades, preventing the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from convening its rescheduled inaugural meeting.

Officers from the Rapid Deployment Barrier Unit of the FCT Police Command took control of the main entrance, effectively shutting down activities at the Wuse Zone 5 complex. Staff, party members, and journalists arriving at the premises were met with a full perimeter lockdown that began shortly after the building was sealed on Tuesday evening.

“The tension is real. The police presence and the barbed wire have created a charged atmosphere,” a staff member said, noting widespread unease within the party.

The action has deepened the party’s internal crisis, with many interpreting the blockade as a calculated move to disrupt the Turaki leadership’s formal takeover.

“This looks like an attempt to stop the Turaki-led NWC from holding its inaugural session,” a party insider suggested.

Throughout the day, police patrols intensified across the zone, with multiple vans circling the area in what appeared to be a deliberate show of force around the embattled secretariat.

As access to the headquarters remains restricted, party leaders are expected to explore alternative venues for their meetings while awaiting an official explanation from security authorities on the reason for the sudden shutdown.
