Power gradually returns as grid restoration begins — DisCos receive supply

Electricity supply is gradually returning across parts of the country as restoration efforts on the national grid begin to yield results, with more megawatts now being injected into the system.

As of 11:44 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IbadanDisCo) received 50 megawatts (MW), while Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IkejaDisCo) was allocated 40 MW. This marks a significant improvement from earlier in the day when all Distribution Companies (DisCos) recorded zero supply.

The latest development indicates that more households and businesses in affected areas are beginning to experience power supply, easing the widespread outage that disrupted economic and social activities nationwide.

Other DisCos, including Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola, are yet to receive power as restoration continues. Industry sources, however, say additional megawatts are expected to be injected into the grid as recovery work progresses.

Authorities have assured electricity consumers that efforts are ongoing to stabilize the grid and expand supply to more regions in the coming hours.
