Adewunmi Onanuga, the deputy chief whip of the house of representatives has died.

Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the green legislative chamber, announced Onanuga’s passing in a statement on Wednesday night.

Rotimi said Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo north federal constituency, Ogun state, died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

“It is with profound sorrow that the House of Representatives announces the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga,” the statement reads.

The politician, better known in her Ogun community by her alias ‘Ijaya’ was first elected into the House in 2019. She was said to have passed on in London, UK where she was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

By her position she’s a principal officer of the House.
