Rivers Chief of Staff alleges ₦5bn bribe offer to impeach gov Fubara

Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a shocking allegation that he was offered a whopping N5 billion bribe to facilitate the impeachment of his principal.

Ehie claimed that the bribe offer was made in October 2023, while he was serving as the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

According to Ehie, he has concrete evidence of the bribe offer stored on his phone and is ready to reveal the identity of the person behind the offer.

He emphasized that the governor is a man of peace and had decided to follow the path of conflict resolution.

Ehie also dismissed allegations made by former Head of Service, George Nwaeke, that he orchestrated the bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex on Fubara’s orders.

He described the claim as false and politically motivated, stating that he had no hand in the burning down of the assembly complex.

Furthermore, Ehie revealed that he has instructed his legal team to file a lawsuit against Nwaeke for criminal libel. He also alleged that Nwaeke had sought financial assistance from him on the same day he resigned as Head of Service.

The political turmoil in Rivers State has been escalating since Fubara’s fallout with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, leading to the suspension of both the governor and his deputy.

The sole administrator of the state, Ibok-Ete Ibas, subsequently suspended all political officeholders in Rivers State on March 26.
