Several schools across Lagos were forced to close earlier than scheduled on Thursday following reports of security threats that raised concerns over the safety of students and staff.
Odinaka Mbonu, a consultant with Corona School, revealed that the decision to close early on Thursday and Friday was taken after some parents reported a possible security threat affecting schools in general.
“The school decided to close early today and tomorrow due to a security threat received. Although it was not directed specifically at Corona School, we took the decision as a preventive measure to guard against any eventuality,” Mbonu said.
He added that the school does not have clear information on the nature or source of the threat but opted to err on the side of caution.
Similarly, Lai Kioki, the owner of Green Spring Schools, said the management instructed early closure after hearing about the reported threat, stressing that the safety of students and staff remained a top priority.
However, a visit to Green Spring School in Awoyaya showed activities continuing normally, with pupils playing football and parents arriving to pick up their children.
A staff member at the school said they became aware of the situation through social media and had remained on alert, noting that activities at the Awoyaya annex were proceeding as usual both within and outside the school premises.
