President Bola Tinubu has pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office to a newly established support fund for members of Nigerian Armed Forces.
The President made the announcement on Sunday, March 29, 2026, as part of activities marking his 74th birthday, describing the initiative as a way to honour the sacrifice and service of military personnel.
He directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a dedicated account for the fund, which will provide assistance to wounded soldiers, as well as families of fallen service members, including widows, widowers, and children.
Tinubu said his salary contributions would serve as seed funding for the initiative, underscoring his commitment to ensuring that those who have paid the price for Nigeria’s peace and security are adequately supported.
He also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector players, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund, noting that further details would be released in due course.
According to a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President emphasised that caring for members of the armed forces and their families is a national duty, not an act of charity.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to improve the welfare of military personnel and ensure their service is met with dignity, care, and sustained support.
