President Bola Tinubu on Saturday praised Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for his sustained investments in education, healthcare and transportation, describing the projects as impactful and people-focused.
The President gave the commendation during an official visit to Maiduguri as part of his three-state tour of Borno, Bauchi and Lagos States. He arrived in the Borno State capital at about 12:30 p.m. and proceeded to commission several projects executed by the state government.
Among the facilities inaugurated were the international wing and new VIP extension of the Muhammadu Buhari Airport, a fleet of electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, as well as three model schools comprising primary, junior secondary and senior secondary levels.
Speaking at the commissioning of the schools, President Tinubu reaffirmed the importance of education to national development, stating that the facilities were dedicated to the continuous learning and future of Nigerian children.
During the visit, the President also attended the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem. In line with Kanuri tradition, President Tinubu stood in as the father of the groom, while Governor Zulum represented the bride’s family and received the traditional bride price of gold coins.
The wedding was hosted by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including seven state governors—Dikko Umaru Radda (Katsina), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa) and Prince Dapo Abiodun (Ogun)—as well as senators and ministers.
President Tinubu departed Maiduguri for Bauchi State at about 3:25 p.m. as he continued his official tour.
