The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration has significantly transformed infrastructure development in the nation’s capital.
Wike spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing journalists after inspecting several ongoing road and infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic and opening up new areas for development across the FCT.
The minister inspected the ongoing construction of Arterial Road SI, linking Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Kaura District, as well as Collector Road C2 in Life Camp to Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way).
He also inspected the construction of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and Jereton Mariere Street near the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District. He further inspected the ongoing remodelling and renovation of the IBB Golf Course.
“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concerned,” Wike said.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the projects, saying the administration was on course to deliver several of them ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed particular confidence in the completion of Arterial Road N16 despite the difficult terrain and extensive bridge construction involved.
According to him, the contractor has guaranteed completion of the project by the first week of January.
“If that N16 job is completed, obviously, the entire area will be a different thing altogether. That is a very huge infrastructure landmark,” he said.
On the renovation of the IBB Golf Course, Wike said the facility would be fully operational and ready to host major tournaments by November.
The minister also disclosed that the implementation of the FCT’s 2026 capital budget had reached 60 per cent.
He said initial delays in the release of funds had affected payments to contractors, but funding had since stabilised, allowing contractors to operate at full capacity.
Wike also advised politicians seeking elective offices to concentrate on presenting their records and programmes to voters rather than engaging in political distractions ahead of the 2027 elections.
