Tinubu meets Fubara in London over Rivers crisis

President Bola Tinubu reportedly met with suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in London last week, according to Africa Report.

Two unnamed aides to the president confirmed the meeting, which was said to have been initiated by Fubara.

Compromises to Resolve Crisis
During their discussion, Fubara reportedly promised to make some compromises to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Aides privy to the discussions said negotiations are ongoing, with a possibility that Fubara’s suspension may be lifted before the six-month deadline.

Background to the Crisis
Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, citing the protracted political crisis.

The president suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State Assembly for an initial period of six months. Tinubu appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral, as the sole administrator of Rivers State.
