Tinubu nominates Yakubu, Ikpeazu, Omokri, Fani-Kayode, others as ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a fresh list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, days after sending an initial batch of three nominees for screening.

In two separate letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation of 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors. The list features four women among the career nominees and six among the non-career nominees.

Among the non-career nominees are former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Lagos Deputy Governor Otunba Femi Pedro, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi. Also nominated are Professor Nora Ladi Daduut, former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu, and Barrister Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu.

Other nominees include Tasiu Musa Maigari, former Speaker of the Katsina House of Assembly; Yakubu N. Gambo, former Plateau Commissioner; and the former UBEC Deputy Executive Secretary.

The career ambassadorial nominees include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim (Ogun), Abimbola Samuel Reuben (Ondo), Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Edo), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Niger), Ambassador Shehu Barde (Katsina), Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno), Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna), Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari (Kwara), and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande (Osun).

The nominees are expected to be posted to missions in key partner nations—including China, India, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, and Kenya—as well as multilateral institutions such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union. Their specific postings will be confirmed after Senate approval.

This latest submission follows last week’s forwarding of three nominees: Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun), who are in line for postings to the UK, USA, or France.

President Tinubu noted that additional nominees will be announced soon.
