Tinubu sends Shettima to Kebbi, mourns fallen soldiers, orders swift rescue of kidnapped schoolgirls

President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to Kebbi State on Wednesday to condole with the state government and reassure families of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the Federal Government is working to secure their safe and speedy release.

The President also condoled with the Nigerian military over the tragic deaths of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who were killed in action during an operation against insurgents in Borno State.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the abduction of the schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State, despite earlier intelligence warnings indicating a possible attack. He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to prevent the incident.

While condemning the security breach, Tinubu urged communities—particularly in areas experiencing security threats—to actively share information and intelligence with security agencies to enhance their effectiveness.

“As Commander-in-Chief, I am depressed by the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” the President said.

He also lamented the disruption of the education of innocent schoolgirls by “heartless terrorists,” noting that he has ordered security agencies to act swiftly to ensure their return.

Tinubu emphasized that security forces cannot operate optimally without the support of citizens, urging community leaders and residents in conflict-prone areas to provide timely and useful information to aid ongoing operations.

Vice President Shettima’s visit is expected to bring further government assurance to the affected families and support ongoing rescue efforts.
