President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a high-level Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos and is made up of APC governors, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other key party stakeholders. Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was appointed Chairman, while former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as Member/Secretary.
Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Also on the committee are Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee members and pledged that the assignment would be carried out with diligence and a strong sense of responsibility.
According to him, the committee will embark on wide consultations to develop a comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable strategy for resolving conflicts within the party.
“We shall put in place a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with renewed hope,” Buni said. “We will also adopt proactive measures to identify solutions and anticipate potential threats in our conflict resolution approach.”
He further urged members to place the overall interest of the party above personal considerations in the discharge of their duties.
The inauguration follows President Tinubu’s call for unity at the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. At the meeting, the President stressed the importance of cohesion, tolerance and inclusiveness, reminding party leaders that the APC was founded on progressive ideals and respect for diverse opinions.
“We must be accommodating. That is the only way we can be resilient. We must be tolerant,” Tinubu had said.
The new committee is expected to play a key role in stabilising the ruling party and strengthening its internal structures ahead of the next electoral cycle.
