President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, as he hosted founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Led by former Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the delegation met with Tinubu to restate their loyalty to his administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu described his longstanding relationship with the CPC as “a sweet memory,” and thanked the group for standing by him, assuring that more of its members would be integrated into his government.
“When I see people like you, I am determined to work harder,” the President said. “We must cure the economy and bring hope to the people, which is what we stand for. The legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari will be sustained and immortalised with a Buhari House.”
Tinubu also used the occasion to highlight what he called a turning point for Nigeria’s economy, noting that the country had already met its 2025 revenue target in August, driven largely by the non-oil sector.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, praised Tinubu’s broadmindedness and inclusiveness, particularly towards Katsina State.
In his remarks, Al-Makura commended Tinubu for what he described as a befitting state burial for Buhari, adding that the President’s presence throughout the ceremonies was “comforting and reassuring.”
He pledged the group’s loyalty ahead of the 2027 elections: “This is to assure you that we believe in your administration, and that will be our focus and commitment to ensure the success of our party and your ultimate victory.”
