Troops of the 3 Division Garrison/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of illegal weapons during a targeted operation in Plateau State.
The arrest, carried out on 14 November 2025, followed actionable intelligence gathered under the newly launched Operation Peace Shield. Soldiers deployed at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint in Bassa Local Government Area intercepted the suspect, identified as Ishaya Musa.
A search of Musa and his belongings led to the discovery of multiple weapons, including six fabricated single-barrel rifles, two fabricated revolver rifles, a Dane gun, an expended cartridge, and other related items. The military said both the suspect and the recovered weapons are currently in custody for further investigation.
The operation is part of intensified efforts to curb the proliferation of illicit arms and strengthen security across the Joint Operations Area. The JTF noted that the success underscores its commitment to safeguarding civilians, preventing armed violence, and maintaining stability in Plateau and its environs.
The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, especially as the harvest and festive seasons approach.
