Scores of workers and motorists were left stranded in the early hours of Friday, January 23, 2026, after an overturned truck caused severe traffic congestion at the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The resulting gridlock stretched from the Otedola Bridge to the Berger axis, with both sides of the busy highway affected.
Confirming the incident in a Facebook post, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command said the congestion was caused by an overturned truck.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also confirmed the accident, noting on X that it involved a mini truck loaded with sand and another carrying granite at the Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat.
LASTMA added that officers of the Nigerian Police Force, alongside LASTMA personnel, were on ground to manage the situation, which disrupted traffic flow from the New Garage area. According to the agency, the traffic backlog had extended close to the Long Bridge, but efforts were ongoing to evacuate the affected vehicles and restore normal movement.
