Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has emerged as the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, the umbrella body of governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Uba Sani, the newly inaugurated governor of Kaduna State, emerged as the vice-chairman of the forum while Abdulkadir Mayere, a former permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, emerged as the director-general of the body.
Uzodimma takes over from Atiku Bagudu, the immediate past governor of Kebbi State, who held the position till he left office May 29, after serving 2 terms as governor.
Uzodimma and Sani emerged at a meeting of immediate past governors, reelected governors and newly elected governors of the ruling party in Abuja on Tuesday.
Uzodimma who is running to be re-elected in November, got the approval of the ex-governors and the new governors to serve a four-year term.
Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo state and Uzodimma’s predecessor held the position as Head of the forum until he left office as governor in 2019.
Sani, a former Senator who was recently sworn in as governor role as vice-chairman is a new development in the forum; hence, the need to amend the memorandum of the association.
The association members decision to appoint a vice-chairperson is connected with the fact that Mr Uzodinma is facing re-election in November.
