Why I appointed Bosun Tijani as minister despite past criticism – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has revealed that he appointed Dr. Bosun Tijani as Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy despite his past criticism because he believes in recognizing talent, even in those who may have once been critics.

At a special Iftar held at the Presidential Villa to commemorate his 73rd birthday, President Tinubu shared that Tijani’s appointment was a difficult decision due to the reservations of his close associates.

However, he believed that Tijani’s talent and frustration with the system could drive him to contribute more to governance.

Tijani, who was present at the event, shared his personal experience of being appointed by President Tinubu despite his past activism and criticism of the President and the National Assembly.

He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and contribute to making Nigeria a better place.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised President Tinubu’s ability to forgive his critics and trust his judgment.

Akpabio noted that Tijani’s confirmation as a minister was initially met with resistance from lawmakers due to his past comments, but ultimately, they trusted President Tinubu’s judgment and confirmed him.

As Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Tijani oversees key parastatals, including the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST). His appointment has been seen as a significant move to bring industry experience into President Tinubu’s cabinet.
