Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Wike, while reaffirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, said he does not need to occupy any position in the campaign council to contribute to the President’s electoral success.

The Minister’s position was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

Reports in some sections of the media had listed Wike among party chieftains and government officials allegedly lobbying or being considered for the position of Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

However, Wike described the reports as false, saying he had not discussed either the leadership or membership of the proposed campaign council with anyone.

“I am outside Nigeria, resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days, commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January, next year,” he said.

The FCT Minister said his focus upon returning to the country would remain on delivering on his mandate in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also pledged to work towards strengthening Tinubu’s electoral fortunes in Rivers State and the FCT.

“Therefore, I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor has consistently expressed support for Tinubu since the 2023 election, despite remaining a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His latest comments further underscore his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election bid while distancing himself from speculation over a formal role in the President’s campaign structure.
