Wike mocks Obi, says he prefers ‘food-is-ready politics’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, claiming that the former Anambra governor prefers “food-is-ready politics” and lacks the appetite for difficult political and governance challenges.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike dismissed Obi’s assertion that he could double Nigeria’s electricity generation from 5,000MW to 10,000MW if given the opportunity, arguing that true leadership is defined by the ability to confront and overcome complex national problems.

“Peter Obi likes food is ready, mama put. I don’t want struggling,” Wike said, insisting that leaders must demonstrate the capacity to tackle challenges rather than avoid them.

The FCT minister also criticised opposition parties, including the NDC and ADC, describing them as “known liars” and accusing them of failing to uphold the democratic standards they publicly champion. He pointed to controversies surrounding their primary elections as evidence that they have been unable to manage internal party processes effectively.

According to Wike, the crises and protests that followed the parties’ primaries have undermined their claims of offering credible alternatives to the ruling APC.
