38-year-old Islamic teacher remanded over alleged rape of two underaged girls

A 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, Adamawa State, over allegations of defiling two female students aged eight and nine.

Sani, who teaches at an Islamic school in Numan Local Government Area, was accused of taking the two girls to a secluded area behind the school classrooms during Quranic classes, where he allegedly sexually assaulted them.

The prosecuting police officer, ASP Zakka Musa, told the court that the teacher allegedly lured the victims to the area before committing the offences.

According to Musa, the mother of one of the alleged victims reported the incident at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Numan on August 7, 2026.

Sani was subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate’s Court I in Yola on charges including indecent treatment, sexual assault and defilement. He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read and explained to him.

Following his plea, the prosecution requested an adjournment to enable the police to forward the case diary to the state Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The court granted the application and ordered that Sani be remanded pending further proceedings.
