A family in Awka, Anambra state has been thrown into mourning following the murder of one of its own simply identified as Chima, during a fight with their teenage houseboy, on Saturday.
Several eyewitnesses while giving account of what transpired between the teenager who hails from Abakaliki area of Ebonyi State and the deceased said the teenager fatally attacked Chima with a pestle and knife, resulting in his death.
From the witnesses account, it was gathered that Chima slapped the houseboy, who is believed to be about 17 years of age and the houseboy retaliated, leading to a fight that ended on Chima’s death.
With this development, the houseboy was apprehended by local security and during interrogation, he admitted he killed his master by repeatedly hitting him with only a pestle.
He also said the fight was as a result of his failure to resume work and carry out the house chores.
He said when he was questioned for his errant behaviour by his master, he refused to answer and this angered his master, who slapped him which he retaliated and resulted in a fight and death of his master.
Witnesses however debunked his claims of using just pestle in his master as they said he used both kitchen knife and pestle on his master.
The witnesses said he intentionally killed his master as at the point his master was lying helplessly on the floor in a pool of his blood, the houseboy continued attacking him with the weapons.
As at the time of filing this report, the suspect has been handed over to men of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Awka division for investigation and possible prosecution while the Chima’s remains have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
